Review: Snacks & Ladders (Maginhawa)

I’ve been dying to go to Maginhawa Street in QC for ages now! But it’s too far from my radar and with a toddler in tow, I just can’t get the courage to brave Manila traffic for a much anticipated foodie crawl.

So when I got an invite for the launch of Politricks, which happens to be in Maginhawa, I was more than happy to go.

The launch was in Snacks & Ladders. It’s one of those board games cafe that’s been popping here and there in the Metro. I was able to visit Ludo in Makati last December and I really enjoyed it.

For those of you who’s been living in a cave and doesn’t know how this board game cafe works (makaarte ako, eh kelan ko lang din to natuklasan! Harhar!) – basically it’s just a cafe/restaurant that has loads of board games available for loan to be played while you are in the area. Much like a library of board games. Though you are not allowed to “borrow” and take home the board games.

You can play for as long as you want and as much as you want. with just one catch, everyone has to order of course. A drink or a snack or whatever is okay. Just make sure you order. Anyway, board games are a thousand times more fun over good food and drinks.

Snacks & Ladders is actually a nice place. Every nook is Instagram-worthy. And they loads of games to choose from. I could tell that they are kinda popular because there are really loads of customers in the area when we were there. There are even some on wait list.

The interiors are nice. Lots of woods. Very nice “bahay-kubo”ish ceiling. And they have a 2nd floor, which is like a small attic, but I wasn’t able to check it out.

They also have a small Karaoke Cupboard Under the Stairs – very Harry Potter. I peeked and it’s reaaaaaaaly cozy. Super nice. I could totally see myself and some friends belting out under the stairs.

I was only able to try their pink lemonade and their version of nachos, which oh my goodness is super good! Their nachos have mango salsa. Yay!!! Super yummy as in. With all the tomatoes and cheese and the crunchy nachos, wow. And the mangoes really does gave it a nice kick. Genius! Must try.

If you are in the area, go ahead and drop by. It’ll be sooooo much more fun if you are with friends.
